Forward Single Leg Power Skips

Purpose: Locomotive plyometrics. Power. Fast twitch muscle recruitment. Athletic coordination.

Quick Coaching Cues

  • Complete this drill for your desired distance, then walk or jog back and repeat on the other leg.
  • Jump for maximum height.
  • Coordinate the opposite arm with the opposite leg.
  • Swing arms from the shoulders and elbows, not just elbows.
  • Knees up and toes up, keep the ankles flexed during the knee lifts.

Common Mistakes

  • Not giving enough power.
  • Using same arm with the same side leg.
  • Landing stiff legged.
  • Not keeping the toe pulled up (dorsiflexed) when the knee drives up.
  • Only moving the arms at the elbows and not also from the shoulders.
  • Not lifting the thigh high enough. Drive the knee up powerfully during the jumps.
