Forward Single Leg Power Skips
Purpose: Locomotive plyometrics. Power. Fast twitch muscle recruitment. Athletic coordination.
Quick Coaching Cues
- Complete this drill for your desired distance, then walk or jog back and repeat on the other leg.
- Jump for maximum height.
- Coordinate the opposite arm with the opposite leg.
- Swing arms from the shoulders and elbows, not just elbows.
- Knees up and toes up, keep the ankles flexed during the knee lifts.
Common Mistakes
- Not giving enough power.
- Using same arm with the same side leg.
- Landing stiff legged.
- Not keeping the toe pulled up (dorsiflexed) when the knee drives up.
- Only moving the arms at the elbows and not also from the shoulders.
- Not lifting the thigh high enough. Drive the knee up powerfully during the jumps.
